Washington Wizards and Orlando Magic UNDER 227 points (-110)
For all of the Washington Wizards faults this season, they’ve been capable of putting on quite an offensive show. Their 118.8 points per game average is the third highest mark in the NBA, fueled by a balanced attack in which eight players are averaging eight or more points per game. They’re also own the worst defensive rating in the NBA per NBA Advanced Stats. I get it, everything I’ve said so far seems to set the stage for the total eclipsing the 227 point mark. If the Wizards were playing anyone other than the Orlando Magic, I would probably lean that way. The schtick of the Magic is the complete opposite, though. They rank top 10 in defensive rating and second-to-last in points per game. If Washington isn’t able to score a ton against one of the NBA’s better defensive teams, the Magic don’t have the firepower to do anything offensively that would float this total.
Oddly enough, the under is a combined 17-18-1 in these team’s games this season. In the five games that have favored Washington at home, the under is 3-2. Additionally, the Wizards have drawn three of the NBA’s top 10 defensive teams in three of their last four games. They averaged 110 points against the Nuggets, Lakers and Clippers. If they stayed close to that average against the ninth-highest rated defensive team, Orlando would have to score close to 116 points in order to send the total over. This bet comes down to whether or not you’re confident in the Magic doing so.
