Play of the Day: Toronto Raptors to COVER -5 vs. Miami Heat (-110)
I can’t imagine the contingent of NBA pundits who anticipated the defending champion Toronto Raptors falling off without Kawhi Leonard are having much fun right now. Pascal Siakam has blossomed into a legitimate franchise cornerstone, Nick Nurse has asserted himself as one of the NBA’s top coaches, and six players are averaging at least 11 points per game. Instead of joining the ranks of the Eastern Conference’s mediocre teams – which I guess would only mean making the playoffs as a fifth seed – the Raptors remain the class of the East. For some reason, though, you can still get them at a less-than-premium price tag. It’s hard to imagine that remaining the case for long, but don’t squander an opportunity to buy against a potentially overvalued Miami Heat team. Since starting 11-3, Miami is now 3-2 over its last five games, with the three wins coming against teams at .500 or worse. The two loses came at the hands of Philadelphia and Houston, on the road, by an average of 18 points.
The Raptors have yet to lose a game in Toronto this season, with marks of 8-1 and 7-1 ATS at home and as a home favorite respectively. The Heat, on the other hand, are just 2-4-1 as a road dog and 7-5-1 following a win. Five points doesn’t feel like enough for a team of Toronto’s caliber at home.
