Play of the Day: Chicago Bears to COVER +2.5 vs. Dallas Cowboys (+105)
As odd as this sounds, the Chicago Bears look to be trending upward. They’ve now won three of their last four games and get to head home for a game against the sputtering Dallas Cowboys. With the state of the NFC North, though, Chicago’s already minuscule margin for error remains and another loss would all but seal the deal. Over their last three games, the Bears are averaging 340.3 yards per game, much closer to their 344.6 average from 2018 and a major uptick from their 2019 mark of 281.8. The scoring needs to improve, as the yardage total has only translated to 16.7 points over the aforementioned three-game span. The defense continues to keep those games close, though, helping anchor Chicago’s -0.3 scoring margin. Against Dallas’ slumping defense, those points might finally follow. Rod Marinelli’s unit is allowing 22 points and 115.3 rushing yards per contest over the teams last trio of games. Rookie David Montgomery has started to show signs of what many expected him to be in the offseason. This matchup leaves the door open for a full-blown breakout.
The Bears are 6-1-1 against the spread in their last eight games as a home underdog and 3-1-1 in their last five when the visiting team is favored by three or fewer points. The Cowboys, on the other hand, are just 1-4 ATS in their last five games when favored by three or less and 4-9 over the last 13 Thursday night games. It’s been a down year for Matt Nagy and Mitchell Trubisky, but Chicago might have an actual pulse after this game.
