Captain’s Pick

Matt Chapman, Athletics, 3B, $11,100

Fresh off of setting new career highs in homers (36), RBIs (91) and runs scored (102), Matt Chapman gets the nod as our Captain in our AL Wild Card Game Showdown lineup. Chapman finished 5th in AL WAR (6.7) and did most of his heavy lifting at home. 21 of his 36 homers came in Oakland, and 25 of his dingers came off right-handed pitching. In Oakland’s 4-game home series against the Rays in mid-June, Chapman went 5-for-13 (.385) with 2 homers, 2 doubles, 5 RBIs and 4 runs, reaching base 8 times in total. Chapman had 6 hits (including 2 homers) in his final 4 games of the regular season and has a homer and a triple lifetime against Charlie Morton (but is 3-for-15). He’s a better hitter against righties who rakes at home, and is worthy of this Captain’s pick on Wednesday.
