The Chargers needed some extra time to put the Indianapolis Colts away in Week 1. There’s no shame in that, though. The Colts are being vastly undervalued in the early going and they proved just how tough of an out they would be, with or without Andy Luck. Still, the Chargers are 1-0 and unfortunately for Detroit, they’re entering Ford Field in a spot they thrived in under Anthony Lynn last season. The Bolts were 8-2 against the spread on the road in 2018 and a perfect 3-0 when favored in those games. The Lions, on the other hand, 3-5 at home and 2-3 as an underdog in Matt Patricia’s first season at the helm. The Detroit run defense allowed 212 yards in Arizona last weekend and things won’t get any easier against the quickly rising Austin Ekeler. Additionally, rookie Kyler Murray totaled 275 yards through the air against this secondary in his debut. One can only imagine a veteran like Phillip Rivers is in a position to gash them again.

Los Angeles’ run defense will need to vastly improve against a Detroit rushing attack that totaled 116 yards in Week 1. The Colts totaled 203 rushing yards last week against them, so that’s going to be the game within the game to keep your eye on. Aside from that, though, the Chargers are 5-0 in their last five games after not covering the following week and 5-1 ATS in the last five meetings with the Lions. Detroit, on the other hand, is 0-5 ATS in its last five home games against teams with winning records.
