Fresh off a franchise record 107-win season, the Astros are far and away the most dangerous contender heading into October. The first team to post three straight 100+ win seasons since the Yankees did so from 2002 – 2004, Houston had the largest run differential (+280) of any team in the bigs.

The rotation the Stros will trot out in October is absurd. You can flip a coin as to which 300-strikeout pitcher will win the AL Cy Young between Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole and there’s your 1-2 punch off the top. And oh yeah, they dealt for Zack Greinke at the deadline and all he did was go 8-1 with a 3.02 ERA in 10 starts.

Then there’s the production at the plate, as Houston’s .274 team average and .352 OBP were the top marks in baseball. Alex Bregman may snake the AL MVP away from Mike Trout, George Springer had his best year at the plate, and Yordan Alvarez has been an absolute revelation as a rookie. Oh, and let’s not forget that Jose Altuve and Yuli Gurriel each had 31 dingers and Michael Brantley was an All-Star.

Houston won each of their last 3 games of the season to post a ridiculous 50-22 record in the second half. No team had a better home record than Houston’s 60-21 mark and their 47 road wins is tied for third most in baseball. They’re the heavy betting favorite and the 2017 champs are even stronger in 2019… watch out.
