Joining the likes of Hakeem Olajuwon, Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki, Giannis Antetokounmpo became only the fourth international player to ever win NBA MVP after a historic 2018-19 season. Joining the illustrious 25/10/5 club, the Greek Freak finished third in the NBA in scoring (27.7 ppg), averaged the most rebounds of any non-center (12.5 rpg) and was also the NBA’s most efficient player (30.95 PER).

The Bucks held the East’s best record a year ago and could very well be the conference’s top regular season team for the second season in a row, only further boosting Antetokounmpo’s chances of winning MVP for a second straight year. He turns 25 in December and it’s truly scary to think that he’s nowhere near his potential.

Winning the NBA MVP in back-to-back years has been a rather common occurrence in the 2000s, with Tim Duncan (02-03), Steve Nash (05-06), Steph Curry (15-16) and LeBron James twice (09-10, 12-13) going back-to-back since 2000. With a unicorn skillset and a killer instinct to dominate every game, there’s a good reason why Giannis is the odds-on favorite to repeat in an award that he projects to win many times in his career.
