Odds to Win AL West
*Odds via FanDuel Sportsbook as of 7/5/19
Houston Astros (-3500)
22 games over .500 and rocking a sizable seven-game lead over the second place A’s, the Houston Astros are the largest midseason divisional favorite in the American League. On the fast track to three-peating as AL West champs, the 2017 World Series champion Astros are tracking toward becoming the first team since the 2002-04 Yankees to post three straight 100-win seasons. After entering Spring Training as the odds-on favorite to win the division at -550, Houston has proved bookmakers were right in their assessment of Houston’s 2019 divisional outlook.
With the top odds to win the AL West, the Astros lead all of baseball with six All-Star Selections (Justin Verlander, Gerrit Cole, Ryan Pressly plus Alex Bregman, George Springer and Michael Brantley will all be starters) and that doesn’t even include their stud middle infielders Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa who have battled injuries. No AL team has been tougher to beat at home than the ‘Stros, while Houston has held opponents to an AL-low .220 batting average. Pair that with the fact that the Astros rank in the top 3 in the AL in team batting average, OBP and OPS, and you have a dynastic team in the works that’s eager to make amends for their 5-game loss to the Red Sox in the 2018 ALCS.
On pace to finish: 102-60
More Astros odds: +200 to win American League (2nd best), +400 to win World Series (3rd best)
