Three-Way Tie

New York Knicks (+500)

When we first checked the odds 12 days ago, the New York Knicks were the lone betting favorites (+450). The Knicks were ahead of both the Cavaliers and Suns (+550). But, with the same percentage odds of landing the top pick (14 percent), it makes sense that these teams would be locked in a three-way tie before the lottery drawing. Tonight’s happenings won’t impact another team more than New York. In fact, many experts believe the franchise’s future relies on landing this pick aka Williamson. If Williamson comes to the Knicks, it’s possible both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving follow the Duke phenom to the Big Apple. Winning the lottery is the first part of what could be the biggest offseason in one NBA team’s history. Landing Williamson, Durant and Irving can surely rival 2010’s South Beach collaboration of LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade. If the Knicks don’t win this lottery, who knows what will happen to this group, led by a polarizing owner, in James Dolan. New York finished the 2018-19 season with a league-worst 17-65 record.

Cleveland Cavaliers (+500)

The Cleveland Cavaliers finished the year with just two more wins than the Knicks. That result came as little surprise after losing James in the offseason. Kevin Love suited up in only 22 contests, leaving the rest of the Cavs’ subpar lineup to fend for themselves. Without Love, the Cavs were forced to rely on a combination of Jordan Clarkson and Collin Sexton. Needless to say, an infusion of young talent would be welcomed in Cleveland. This organization is no stranger to winning the Draft Lottery. The Cavaliers have won the lottery four times in the past 16 seasons, using those picks to grab James, Irving, Anthony Bennett and Andrew Wiggins. It would be fitting if Zion ends up in Cleveland, as the stud has been drawing comparisons to James all season long.

Phoenix Suns (+500)

Phoenix has factored in the Draft Lottery proceedings for a long time now. In fact, this squad has picked within the top four in each of the past three years, grabbing talents like DeAndre Ayton, Josh Jackson and Dragan Bender. That doesn’t even include Devin Booker, who went 13th overall the year before. Somehow, this collection of young stars cannot find a winning touch in Phoenix. Of the three favorites to pick first, the Suns may be the only team that could consider Murray State’s Ja Morant, who could be a better fit in their lineup than Williamson. Morant was a beast in his second and final collegiate season, averaging 24.5 PPG and 10.0 APG. Still, a selection of Morant over Williamson could backfire on the Suns, so expect Williamson to go number one regardless of which team holds the top pick.

Rest Of The Top Five

Chicago Bulls (+550)

Atlanta Hawks (+650)
