Tied at one game apiece, the Western Conference Finals shift to the Gateway City this evening. The St. Louis Blues host the San Jose Sharks as the teams continue their duel in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Check out our complete betting rundown before the squads take the ice.
San Jose Sharks Cover (+1.5) @ St. Louis Blues
San Jose has had mixed results in the third game of a series so far this postseason. In round one, their first visit to Las Vegas was disastrous. Both Mark Stone and Paul Stastny recorded five points each in a 6-3 win for the Golden Knights. The next time San Jose faced a game three, the result was much better. Logan Couture netted a hat trick in a 4-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche, which gave the Sharks a 2-1 series lead at the time. The offensive talent was nearly equal against the Knights and Avs, but San Jose clearly has an advantage up front in this series. St. Louis cannot slow down Couture, who potted another pair of goals during game two. It was San Jose’s biggest fear that came true Monday night. Martin Jones was weak in net, giving up four goals on just 25 shots. San Jose actually outshot St. Louis in the loss, and if that happens again, it should result in a closer game this time around.
Sharks & Blues Hit The Over (5.5 Goals)
We nailed this same prediction in game two… barely. A final tally in the third period by the Blues helped hit the over of 5.5. The line is rather low once again, especially when considering Couture was the only player who scored for San Jose Monday. Joe Pavelski, Erik Karlsson, Joe Thornton and Brent Burns were all held without a point that night. Burns and Karlsson combined for nine shots on net, by the way. Was it great defense/goaltending, or simply an off-night for the Sharks? It could be a combination of both factors. Either way, don’t expect the star-studded Sharks to get shut out like that on many occasions. It may not happen again for the remainder of this series. That’s why it was a good thing that the Blues took care of business that evening. Whenever you can silence those superstars, you have to take advantage of the situation. With that being said, put your faith behind this hungry Sharks team. They should light the lamp several times tonight, as should the Blues. Eleven different St. Louis skaters found the score sheet in game two.
Number Of Goals: 6 Or More (-125)
It’s pretty telling that this line has the most favorable odds. The other options include three or less (+420) or four to five goals scored (+180). Plus, if you took our advice above, why not parlay that into more possible winnings? There are only three goal total options and this clearly the most intriguing one. San Jose games have hit six or more goals seven out of their last ten tries, which obviously translates to a 70-percent success rate. Needless to say, San Jose is not tightening up offensively, and barely clamping down defensively in the postseason. The high-scoring games do not guarantee wins for San Jose, though. The team has come out the victor in four out of those seven contests. Stay away from outright winners, but enjoy the inevitable flurry of pucks hitting the back of the nets.
