The Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters have officially begun. Of course, there has been one player that has stood above the rest at this particular event, and his name is Rafael Nadal. Can anyone knock off the defending champion? Or will it be more of the same in 2019? Here is our Monte-Carlo Masters betting preview.
Early Round Recap
The first two rounds are complete, and three top-10 seeds have already been eliminated, along with another couple that survived some serious scares. One of the players that were upset in the second round is Marin Cilic, who is ranked 11th in the world but was seeded seventh in the tournament. He fell in three sets to Guido Pella. A player that was able to survive a second-round scare was top-seeded Novak Djokovic, who barely defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber in three sets. Nevertheless, each of the top-4 seeds still remain, as the third round gets set to begin on Thursday.
Rafael Nadal (-165)
The clear favorite in this tournament is not the top-ranked player in the world. No, it’s Rafael Nadal, who is otherwise known as the ‘King of Clay.’ Nadal has won 11 Monte-Carlo Masters titles. Yes, you read that correctly. 11 titles. The Spaniard has had an injury-plagued season to this point, but he is still the three-time defending champion and will be the man to beat until a new champion is crowned. He won his first match easily against fellow-Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, beating him in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.
Novak Djokovic (+300)
The afore-mentioned No. 1 world ranking belongs to this man. Djokovic had one hell of a 2018 season, winning Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. Oh yeah, and he started out this year by winning the Australian Open, as well. He is on a dominant streak and is the last man not-named Nadal to win the this tournament back in 2015. Djokovic has won the event twice (2013, 2015) in his career.
