New York Mets To WIN (+114) @ Atlanta Braves
Something’s gotta give in this matchup, as the Braves look to protect their impressive 5-1 record at home, while the Mets hope to build on their 5-1 road record so far this season. Both teams are currently tied at 7-4 atop the NL East standings, along with Philadelphia. Atlanta starter Kevin Gausman had a terrific first outing against Miami, allowing just two hits over seven innings of shutout baseball in a 4-0 Braves victory. With that being said, he has not had the same success against the Mets in his career, although it is a small sample size. Gausman is 0-2 against New York with a 4.91 ERA and 1.364 WHIP. On the other hand, Mets starter Steven Matz has dominated the Braves in his career. Matz is 4-0 with a 2.75 ERA and 1.093 WHIP in seven career starts against Atlanta. Furthermore, Matz has gotten off to a strong start in 2019, boasting a 0.87 ERA through two starts. In addition, the Mets’ offense has been feeling it lately, scoring at least eight runs in each of their last three games. Keep an eye out for new Mets acquisition Robinson Cano, who is 6-for-15 against Gausman in his career.
Pittsburgh Pirates & Chicago Cubs UNDER 9 Runs (-116)
It looked like the Chicago Cubs had finally broken out against the Pirates in the series opener, as they went on to win 10-0 in an absolute rout. Unfortunately for Cubs fans, they slipped the very next day, dropping the second game of the series 5-2 at home against Pittsburgh. Tonight is the rubber match, as Chicago looks to win its first series of the season and regain some momentum within the division. They will hand the ball to Jose Quintana, who did not have a very good game his last time out against Milwaukee. He surrendered eight earned runs on eight hits, including three home runs at Miller Park last week. With that being said, Quintana has had some success against the Pirates, boasting a 2.89 ERA and 1.107 WHIP in five starts against Pittsburgh. On the other side, Pirates starter Joe Musgrove has also pitched well against the Cubs in his career, going 2-1 with a 1.80 ERA and 1.100 WHIP in three starts against the North-siders. Teams hit the UNDER in three of five of Quintana’s starts against Pitt and all three of Musgrove’s starts versus Chicago. Consider wagering on UNDER nine runs (-116) at FanDuel.
San Diego Padres & Arizona Diamondbacks OVER 9 Runs (-104)
Arizona’s offense has been among the best in the league so far this season. In fact, the Diamondbacks currently rank inside the top-8 in runs (68), hits (122), doubles (33), RBI’s (64), batting average (.279), slugging percentage (.510) and OPS (.838). It is quite surprising that the offense has been doing so well, considering the team traded away their best player Paul Goldschmidt in the offseason Nevertheless, they scored 18 runs in the first two games against San Diego this season before falling 4-1 in the third head-to-head contest. With offensive numbers like that, it shouldn’t be too surprising to read that Arizona is sixth in the MLB in OVER percentage at 72.7 percent. As for the Padres, they have finished UNDER more often than not this season; however, when they play on the road, their OVER percentage jumps all the way up to 66.7 percent. Two of three games between these teams has finished OVER so far this season. In addition, the Padres will be starting a rookie on the mound tonight. In fact, Pedro Avila only has one start above Single-A in his baseball career. The Snakes could have a field day with the youngster. On the other hand, San Diego has had some success against Arizona starter Zack Godley in the past. Godley is 4-3 with a 4.85 ERA and 1.365 WHIP in 11 starts against the Padres in his career. Expect a high-scoring contest here.
