Anyone who has been on social media over the last week or so is well-aware of the upcoming premiere for the final season of Game of Thrones. The first of six feature-length episodes will air on Sunday, which got us wondering if there are any sports icons that could assume the roles of the many popular characters in the world-famous show. Who is fierce enough to portray the Mother of Dragons? Which superstar athlete could be Jon Snow? And is there any smooth-talking sports stars that could play the role of Tyrion Lannister? Check out our Game of Thrones sports special, as you prepare for one of the most highly-anticipated premieres in television history.

Lionel Messi as Jon Snow

Who better to play arguably the most popular GoT character than arguably the world’s best player in without-a-doubt the world’s most popular sport? Lionel Messi is one of, if not the most popular athlete in the entire world. At just 5-foot-7, Messi resembles Jon Snow’s small stature and incredible determination to prove that he is more than what meets the eyes. Similar to Snow’s ascension as a member of the Night’s Watch, Messi was named captain of his national team in Argentina at the age of 24. Then, earlier this year, he was awarded the captainship of Barcelona, following the departure of longtime captain Andres Iniesta. Messi is currently 31 years old and is responsible for captaining two major football clubs. In addition, he has won five Ballon d’Or awards, given to the best player in the world on an annual basis. That is tied for the most in the sports history (C. Ronaldo – 5). He has also won five European Golden Shoes as the top scorer on the continent. And unlike his superstar rival Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi is known for being extremely humble and does not crave the spotlight. Sound like anyone you know? Needless to say, Messi is more-than-capable of filling Jon Snow’s boots.

Serena Williams as Daenerys Targaryen

Was there any question about who was going to be the Mother of Dragons? I mean, come on. Serena Williams is one of the fiercest competitors in the world, regardless of sport or gender. Daenerys Targaryen is a ruthless leader, who is poised to become queen. Williams is arguably the most dominant female athlete in sports history. She has won an Open Era-record 23 Grand Slam singles titles. She has been ranked No. 1 in the world on six separate occasions, including a stretch of 186 consecutive weeks, tying Steffi Graf for the longest stretch in history. In addition to her 23 singles titles, Serena has 14 doubles titles. Most importantly, Serena has always challenged the narrative throughout her life. She was born in Michigan but raised in Compton with her sister, Venus. As a pair of African American women, the Williams sisters’ chances of reaching the level of stardom they’ve achieved in such an old-fashioned, wealthy sport were slim-to-none. Daenerys Targaryen experienced a rough patch early on, as well. Actually, it was a bit more than a rough patch, as she was essentially traded to a savage tribe leader by her brother in exchange for access to an army of warriors. Targaryen continued to persevere throughout the series, ultimately giving birth to three fire-breathing dragons that would catapult her into a position of power. Similarly, Serena Williams recently had a baby and returned to the tennis court to finish runner-up at Wimbledon and U.S. Open shortly after giving birth. Her new status as an icon for mothers has empowered her to become something so much greater than just a superstar athlete. Just like how Daenerys is so much more than just the Mother of Dragons. She is a wise leader with the courage to dream, patience to listen and ability to instill belief into her people.

Conor McGregor as Tyrion Lannister

Ok, I know that fans have fallen in love with Tyrion Lannister over the years, but really think about it. Was Tyrion such a great role model early on? He was sleeping around and getting drunk on a regular basis, essentially reaping the benefits of his royal name and contributing nothing to society. Not to mention, all he would ever do is talk. He was considered a scholar of sorts, so he always believed he was more intelligent than the person next to him. Who does that sound like? Yes, Conor McGregor fits the bill perfectly. He is constantly spouting off about nonsense, plus he is shorter than the U.S. national average, so he even FITS the bill. Now, think a little bit deeper. Due to Tyrion’s classification as a dwarf, there is essentially no chance of him becoming king. Therefore, he has always found a way to hitch his wagon to another powerful leader in order to work his way up the ladder. McGregor did the same exact thing with Floyd Mayweather, taking a backseat to the boxing legend but earning himself a hefty pay day in the process.

Ronda Rousey as Cersei Lannister

It’s been a while since Ronda Rousey has stolen headlines the way she did when she was arm-barring everyone in mixed martial arts a few years back; however, she is still throwing people around in the WWE and whooping some ass on the big screen. Is there any other female athlete that instills more fear in you than ‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey? Similarly, is there any other female character in Game of Thrones that instills more fear in you than Cersei Lannister? I think we can agree that she is one crazy bitch. One of the biggest similarities between these two ladies is their complete lack of remorse for anyone who doesn’t like them or doesn’t agree with them.

Alex Morgan as Sansa Stark

First of all, the beauty is apparent. Beyond that, Alex Morgan would be the perfect Sansa Stark for a number of reasons. With all due respect to Morgan, but she has never been the best player on the U.S. Women’s National Team. Think Abby Wambach, Hope Solo and Carli Lloyd. With that being said, she has always been one of the most popular players on the team. I would think that Sansa’s position within the Stark family is similar. Jon Snow, Rob Stark, Arya Stark and Bran Stark have all accomplished more than Sansa, but the eldest daughter has continuously found herself in a position of power. That is not to say that Sansa hasn’t had to endure her fair share of adversity and tragedy, just as it is not to say that Alex Morgan isn’t a tremendously successful soccer player.

USA Gymnasts as Arya Stark

Ok, this comparison is going to get a little deep, so bear with me. First, Arya Stark is pretty much the runt of the family, having been the youngest and smallest Stark of the bunch. Similarly, gymnasts are usually smaller than the average person. They are petite in stature, which allows them to utilize their size in a manner that is conducive to the sport. What really attaches the #MeToo movement to Arya Stark is the fact that Arya never truly had a voice throughout the series. When she was younger and wanted to be a warrior, she was laughed at and cast aside. Ultimately, she ended up taking her life into her own hands and wound up training to become a ‘person with no face.’ Similarly, the U.S. gymnasts that stood up against former Michigan State and USA Gymnastics trainer Larry Nassar always felt like they did not have a voice to speak up about the despicable acts that had occurred. Eventually, they all decided to take their lives into their own hands and band together to defeat the system that was holding them back. It is one of the worst tragedies in the history of sports, followed by one of the most powerful and courageous movements in today’s society.

Tom Brady as Jaime Lannister

For starters, they are both very handsome. That is the obvious similarity between these two individuals. Furthermore, Jaime is constantly mocked by fans for his disgusting and inappropriate relationship with his twin sister, Cersei. Similarly, Tom Brady was mocked for his cringe-worthy kiss with his son last offseason. Beyond their odd and inappropriate behavior, they are both terrific leaders with plenty of accolades to earn the respect of their peers.

Luka Doncic as Bran Stark

Luka Doncic is likely going to be named 2018-19 NBA Rookie of the Year in a couple months, as he became just the fifth rookie in NBA history to average 20 points, five rebounds and five assists in his first season. NBA executives marvel at his ability to see the court at all points throughout the game, which happens to be a similarity to Bran Stark, who can literally see the future as the new Three-Eyed Raven. Bran is going to be a much bigger part of this next season, as his connections with the Night King and his unique ability will likely determine the future of Westeros. Similarly, Doncic is going to be a much bigger factor next season, as he is joined by his new teammate and fellow European Kristaps Porzingis. Bran sees the future, and Luka is the future.

Bill Belichick as the Night King

First off, the lack of emotion that Bill Belichick shows is very similar to a zombie anyways. Now, combine that with his innate ability to lead and creative manner in which he transforms has-been players into key contributors, and you have the perfect Night King. Whether it’s a former Lacrosse player like Chris Hogan or a former first-round bust like Shea McClellin, Belichick has always been able to bring football players back from the dead. As for Game of Thrones, the Night King literally brings people back from the dead to join his army of white walkers. The New England Patriots are pretty much the white walkers, as they utilize a plethora of non-stars to consistently overachieve and win titles year-after-year.

Kevin Durant as a White Walker

Speaking of winning titles year-after-year, the Golden State Warriors pretty much adopted New England’s mentality by plucking players like David West and David Lee from other teams to fill in roster spots in their all-star lineup. The only exception is Kevin Durant. KD is the perfect white walker. The white walkers look like an unbeatable group. I mean, they are already dead. Plus, with Belichick at the helm, it seems like a no-lose situation, which, as we all know, is the only kind of situation that Durant likes. With that being said, KD will quickly rise up the ranks and earn a spot next to the Night King at the front of the troops. That will surely prove that he isn’t a cupcake.
